COMMERCE DEPARTMENT ACTIVITIES: 2021-2022
1) Environmental Day Celebration
P.G Department of NSS College Ottapalam celebrated Environment day on June 5 by conducting various programmes. Due to Covid 19 pandemic, we conducted programmes online. Students belonging to various departments were contested. The programmes ended up with great success as the participation was more than expected. Highlights of the Programme include
1. Nature Hunt: Students were given to discover each of the objects in nature by giving hints
2. Craft: Students were instructed to make craft items out of natural products.
3. Drawing: A spot theme was given to the participants and the theme was “Be a part of solution: not the part of Pollution “. The winners are awarded with e-certificates as well as mobile recharge. Due to covid 19, as the classes are going online the prizes of the competition are distributed in the form of mobile recharge.
2) Programme Name: Intercollegiate Content Creation Competition IMAGINACTION
PG Department of Commerce, NSS College Ottapalam organised an online intercollegiate competition on content creation, “IMAGINACION” regarding the impact of Covid 19 on the MSME Sector in India. The Competition was organised on the eve of World MSME Day -June 27. The aim of the competition was to assess the student’s views about the MSME sector in the Covid Situation.UG and PG Students from different colleges actively participated in the competition. Students expressed their views on the covid impact on the MSME sector was presented in the form of photos, videos, collages, digital posters and pencil drawing. The programme was coordinated by Mrs. Prameela. P, ED Club coordinator. Attractive prizes were given to winners.
3) Live Interaction with Alumni: webinar on Career Guidance
PG Department of Commerce in association with the Placement Cell of NSS College Ottapalam organised a live webinar on Career Guidance. The main highlight of the programme was the session led by Alumni of the department. Students belonging to Commerce as well as other disciplines were actively participated. Alumni students who led the session shared their experiences and valuable tips about the bank exam.
5) Programme Name: Anti Dowry Campaign
Date: 27/07/2021 ; 11.00 am
P.G Department of Commerce, N.S.S. College Ottapalam in association with District Legal Services Authority, Palakkad conducted an ‘Anti Dowry Campaign’ on 27/07/2021. the programme was conducted online through Google Meet Platform. The programme was presided over by Principal Dr. Rajesh R, Smt. Geetha K, HOD, P.G Department of Commerce welcomed the gathering to the programme. Smt. Anupama VG, Secretary(Sub Judge), DLSA Palakkad delivered the Welcome Speech. The resource person for the session was Smt. Lakshmi M L, Advocate, Palakkad, gave the students an overall awareness about the legal protection and laws relating to Dowry related cases. The students got a chance to interact with the resource person and clarify their doubts. The programme also had a pledge on the ‘Anti Dowry Campaign’ in which all the students participated.
6) Programme: Career Guidance Class on Company Secretary Course
Date: 14/08/2021
The P.G Department of Commerce, N.S.S College, Ottapalam, in association with ICSI (The Institute of Company Secretaries of India, Palakkad Chapter conducted an online career guidance class on the Company Secretary Course on August 14 2021. The programme was organised for the final year B.com students. The programme started with a silent prayer. Smt Rekha Menon P, Assistant Professor, P.G Department of Commerce welcomed the gathering. The Programme was presided over by the Head of the Department of Commerce, Smt Geetha K. CS Venkitaramanan G Chairman ICSI Palakkad Chapter gave the students a detailed session explaining the scope of Company Secretary Profession in various sectors. He gave the students an idea about how the CS course will help them become industry-ready. Ms. Roby Joseph, Chapter in Charge, Palakkad chapter of ICSI explained to the students the details of the course like duration, exam model, number of papers and the internship. There was an interactive session where the students had the chance to clarify their doubts relating to the CS course. The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Miss. Aswathy Nath, Final Year B.Com student.
7) Webinar on “Practical accounting and tax practices” on 16/08/2021 in association with Tax study Vocational Training centre

PG Department of Commerce, NSS College Ottapalam organized a webinar on the topic “Practical Accounting and tax practices” on 16/08/2021 at 2.30 pm using Google Platform. 65 students benefited from the session. During the session, the Resource person explains the practical aspect of accounting and GST.

8) Webinar on the Topic- “ A Bird’s eye view on GST”
The P.G Department of Commerce, N.S.S College, Ottapalam conducted a webinar on A bird’s eye view on GST” on 04/07/ 2021. The programme was organised for the final year B.com students. The programme started with a silent prayer. Smt Geetha K, Assistant Professor, HOD, P.G Department of Commerce welcomed the gathering. The Programme was inaugurated by Dr Rajesh R, Principal, NSS College Ottapalam. Mr. CMA Shibu Gopi, the Resource person of the webinar gave the students a detailed explanation about GST how the CS course will help them become industry-ready. There was an interactive session where the students had the chance to clarify their doubts. The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Mrs. Priya P, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce, NSS College Ottapalam.
COMMERCE DEPARTMENT ACTIVITIES: 2020-2021
1) Online Quiz on Entrepreneurship Development
P.G Department of Commerce in Association with ED club organized a National Level online quiz programme. E certificates were issued to the participants who scored above 60%. The quiz has wide acceptance with total of 681 participants from different states of India.
2) Essay Writing Competition
An inter-collegiate essay writing competition for MBA and M.Com students was conducted by PG Department Of Commerce in association with SBI, PB branch, Ottapalam. The topic selected for the essay was Covid 19 impact on Indian Banking Sector. Students were instructed to write essays in English and to mail the scanned copy of essay to Department ID nssotpcommerce20@gmail.com on or before 31st May 2020 along with the student’s college ID proof. Essay was limited to 1000 – 1500 words. Altogether there were 10 participants. Among the, Three of the best essay was given prizes. Amount of Rs 3000, Rs. 2000 and Rs.1000 were first, second and third prize respectively.
3) NATIONAL WEBINAR ON RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
PG Department of Commerce NSS College, Ottapalam organized a webinar on Research Methodology. The sessions were handled by Dr K Kanniammal, Professor, Department of Commerce, Avinashilingam Institute of Home Science and Higher Education for Women, Coimbatore and Dr Mugesh P, Assistant Professor, Head, Department of Commerce, AMC Group of Educational Institutions, Manissery, Ottapalam. The resource persons shared their valuable knowledge in the area of research methodology with participants. Participants in this webinar had the opportunity to understand how to conduct their project works from problem identification to the analysis of data. The programme was coordinated by Ms. Priya P, Assistant Professor of Commerce.
4) ONE DAY WORKSHOP ON DIGITAL PAYMENT SOLUTIONS
The PG Department of Commerce N.S.S College, Ottapalam in association with SBI Regional Office, Shoranur has organized a one-day workshop on “Digital Payment Solutions”. The workshop was organized in offline mode after the reopening of regular classes for students, and was conducted on 16th February 2021 in the college seminar hall. Smt.Geetha Assistant Professor of Commerce &HOD delivered the welcome address and Principal Dr. Rajesh R. delivered the presidential address. The workshop was inaugurated by Mr. Abdul Jaleel Y (SBI PBB Ottapalam Manager). Smt Manju B L, IQAC Coordinator delivered Felicitation speech. The workshop was coordinated by Mrs. Swapna K., Assistant Professor, and Dept. of Commerce. Mr. Ragin Raj, Assistant Manager Digital, Mr. Sanal Kumar, Assistant Manager Electronic Payments, Mr. Lipeesh C T., Manager, Liabilities were the Resource persons who shared their valuable knowledge with the audience. The workshop was intended to provide hands-on practices to use digital payment systems provided by SBI. Selected Final year UG Students and all PG students were the participants. Most of the participants who are having SBI accounts were able to understand and get trained to use Net banking and the YONO App of SBI. The feedback from participants about the workshop was positive. This one-day workshop was conducted by maintaining all Covid-19 protocols.
5) Workshop on GST
PG Department of Commerce, NSS College Ottapalam in association with State GST Department Palakkad has organized one day workshop on GST: A Practical Approach for final year B.Com Students on 24th February 2021 . The programme was conducted offline by maintaining all Covid 19 protocols. Smt.Geetha. K, Assistant Professor of Commerce &HOD delivered the welcome address and the inaugural speech was delivered by Dr Rajesh R, Principal, N.S.S. College Ottapalam. Smt Manju B L, IQAC Coordinator delivered a Felicitation speech to the programme. The workshop was organized with the aim of getting practical knowledge on GST. The session was handled by Mr. Jinub Joseph, Assistant State Tax Officer, GST Department, Palakkad. Smt Prabha P, Assistant Professor of Commerce Coordinated the programme.
6) Webinar on Demystifying Exchange Traded Funds as an Investment Opportunity
PG Department of Commerce, NSS College, Ottapalam organized a webinar on Demystifying Exchange Traded Funds as an Investment Opportunity on 26th February 2021. The Programme was inaugurated by Dr. R Rajesh, Principal, NSS College, Ottapalam. Prof Manju B L, IQAC Coordinator delivered a felicitation address. The session was useful for the participants to understand more about exchange-traded funds. The programme was coordinated by Deepa. C Assistant Professor, Dept. Of Commerce.
7) Two Days Workshop cum Webinar
PG Department of Commerce in association with Entrepreneurship Development Club, NSS College, Ottapalam organized Two days workshop cum webinar on March 5th and 6th 2021. The Programme was inaugurated by Dr R Rajesh, Principal, NSS College, Ottapalam.
As a part of the Skill Development Programme training and hands-on practices were given to the participants on File making. The session was handled by Ms. Remya R, PG student, NSS College, Ottapalam. A webinar on the topic of Social Entrepreneurship was organized on March 6th 2021. The Resource Person for the webinar was Dr. Sonia Katherine Mathew, Associate Professor in Human Resource Management at Musaliar Institute of Management, Pathanamthitta, Kerala. The programme was coordinated by Mrs Prameela Assistant Professor of Commerce.
8) INTERNATIONAL WEBINAR ON SUPPLY CHAIN AND ITS EFFECT ON BUSINESS
PG Department of Commerce NSS College, Ottapalam organized a webinar on Supply Chain and its Effect on Business. The session was handled by Mr. Rahul Kappore, Logistics Analyst, ZELLWOOD, Marshalltown, Ireland. The resource person shared his real-life experiences of logistics and supply chain management with participants. Participants in this webinar had the opportunity to learn supply chain and its effect on business in the foreign market. The programme was coordinated by Ms. Geetha K, HOD and Assistant Professor of Commerce.
9) Poster Competition
The tourism club on the occasion of World Tourism Day organized a poster making competition in association with the P.G Department of Commerce. The Theme given was ‘Tourism and Rural Development’. Among the entries received Remya R of the Second year M.Com was declared the first prize winner and M Vidhyalakshmi of the Third year B.Com was the second prize winner.
11) National Webinar on ‘‘Revitalizing Human Resource Functions in the New Normal’’
P.G Department of Commerce organized a National Webinar on 20/3/2021. The Webinar was on the topic ‘Revitalizing Human Resource Functions in the New Normal’. The Resource Person for the Webinar was Dr. Geethu Anna Mathew, Assistant Professor, Department of Management, Kristu Jayanthi College, Bengaluru. The resource person threw light on the various changes happening in the Human Resource sector due to the pandemic situation and how the human resource functions adjusted to the new normal. Students got an opportunity to discuss their doubts. The webinar was coordinated by Ms. Rekha Menon P, Assistant Professor of Commerce.
