The Department of Malayalam started functioning in the N.S.S college from 1968 onwards. Malayalam has been taught as a second language paper from the year of the college’s inception. Now the department offers B.A. Degree in Malayalam as Sanskrit a complementary course .The total seats of the main course has been increased from 20 to 40. Along with this, more than 500 students are learning Malayalam as their second language.
The activities of the Department of Malayalam are enlivened by a group of teachers and students, who enthusiastically endeavour to approach the language of Malayalam, literature and its culture seriously, and contribute immensely to enhance the growth of the mother language.

Ambujam, Prof. Jaya, Prof. A.G. Oleena, Prof. U.Jayaprakash, Prof. A.N. Krishnan, Dr.K.K.Indira have been the beacons of light of the department of Malayalam. The department is committed to enrich the language and uplift the aesthetics and possibilities of Malayalam as a language and discipline.
