Department of chemistry was established in the year 1961 and upgraded to a graduate department in 1963. The department offers two undergraduate programs namely BSc Chemistry with sanctioned strength 28 and BSc Industrial chemistry with sanctioned strength 25. The industrial chemistry program was started in the year 1998 with the financial aid of UGC, New Delhi. Both the programs include courses in organic, physical and inorganic chemistry as core subjects and Maths and Computer science as complementary subjects. The industrial chemistry program includes additional papers of medicinal chemistry. The department also offers two interdisciplinary open courses namely Environmental Chemistry and Chemistry in daily life.
